We are always striving to improve at OnGuard with our Video Surveillance and Security Camera skills and offerings. Thankfully, the video cameras, camera recorders and security system technology keep getting better and better. Fast forward to today, and the transformation in security camera technology is nothing short of remarkable. In this article, we explore how security cameras have evolved and stood the test of time, continuing to deliver value and peace of mind in a fast-changing world. Nine years ago, analog cameras were still prevalent in many surveillance systems. Today, digital IP (Internet Protocol) cameras dominate the market, offering higher resolution, clearer images, and more efficient data transmission. Night vision has come a long way since the early days of infrared technology. Modern cameras use a combination of infrared LEDs, low-light sensors, and even color night vision capabilities to ensure clear footage in complete darkness.

These advancements ensure that security cameras remain effective 24/7, offering continuous protection regardless of lighting conditions. Back in 2015, standard resolution for most cameras was around 720p, with higher-end models offering 1080p. Today, many modern security cameras boast 4K Ultra HD resolution, providing unprecedented clarity. This high resolution allows for detailed surveillance, where even small objects or license plates can be captured with accuracy. The difference is night and day—quite literally, thanks to advancements in night vision technology as well.
